The House Appropriations Committee on Thursday included an extension of the Milk Income Loss Contract program in emergency disaster assistance legislation that Congress is expected to take up for consideration next week. If approved, the MILC program would be extended so that it expires at the same time as other commodity programs authorized in the 2002 farm bill. Without the extension, there will be no funding for the program for one month, which would make including it in the next farm bill problematic.
