Ethanol demand could lead to higher food prices Wegmans in its Sunday newspaper supplement alerted customers that rising demand for corn for ethanol production could lead to higher grocery prices. Not the kind we eat, but the kind cows and other animals eat. A lot of the food in supermarkets is directly linked to the grain corn farmers plant to feed their animals.
“Anything made from corn, or anything
that eats corn, like hogs and beef and chicken,
could be affected where price is concerned,”
said Jo Natale, a Wegmans spokeswoman.
And anything that uses high-fructose corn
syrup, for example, products like soda pop.
