Lentol addresses milk situation in NYC schools

After Herkimer County Farm Bureau met with Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, D-Brooklyn, as part of New York Farm Bureau’s Adopted Legislator program, the assemblyman sent a letter to the chancellor of the New York City schools regarding the chancellor’s decision to eliminate whole milk from school lunch menus.

While NYFB has worked on this issue, the response back to Lentol was not encouraging as, in addition to banning whole milk, the NYC school district has no plan to do a bid on vended milk products.

While the chancellor’s response did admit that there was a drop in milk served to students when the ban took place, the letter stated that milk consumption rates have returned to normal.
