Sen. LaValle pledges support for agriculture As representative of the First Senate District, which includes both the North and South Fork, Sen. Kenneth P. LaValle, R-Port Jefferson, is pleased to have secured $50,000 in the 2007-08 state budget in support of strengthening and improving Long Island’s agricultural economy. According to LaValle, the Long Island Farm Bureau and the Long Island Wine Council will each receive $25,000 in state funds to enhance our local agriculture and viticulture industries. This funding will be used to promote Long Island’s farm trade and strengthen the visibility and competitiveness of Long Island wines on a national level. “This region’s agriculture industry has been one of our greatest economic assets,” LaValle said. “And, over the years, Long Island’s viticulture industry has enriched our local economy and enhanced tourism. The state funding allocated for the Long Island Farm Bureau and the Long Island Wine Council will help these groups in their mission to ensure the continued success of economies that are compatible with our region’s natural environment.”
