David Whitmore dies at age 60

LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. — Longtime Farm Bureau staff member David B. Whitmore of Orleans died June 30 in Syracuse. He was 60.

Whitmore began as a Safemark representative promoting Farm Bureau member services. He later went on to serve as a field advisor and as a Farm Bureau Organization Director.

Whitmore was responsible for the launch of a Farm Bureau public relations campaign that included the present FB logo development. He also helped launch the “I believe” campaign for membership growth and Farm Bureau self image.

His ideas also led to new brochures, new bumper stickers and increased promotion of member benefits now used by many Farm Bureau members.

Whitmore worked closely with the many Farm Bureau committees and will be especially remembered for his work with the Farm Bureau Women’s program and the present Promotion and Education program.

He most recently worked for Congressman John McHugh as the field representative for the 23rd District.

He was the honorary director of the Jefferson County Fair Board, a member of the Italian American Club, and a member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. Donations can be made to the Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund. The Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund has its roots in the Harold Hawley (Farm Bureau) Citizenship fund.
