Adopt a Calf program growing All it takes is a little time, effort, following a recipe and adding your own additional flavor which is exactly what Terri DiNitto of DiNitto Farms in Marcy did. Using some of the New York Farm Bureau Foundation’s “Adopt a Calf ” basics she modeled her own program. A local first grade class just finished their year with Blackie, a name that the class selected for their calf. DiNitto visited the class at the beginning of the school year and presented a picture and brought in foods that the calf would be eating, plus pictures representing daily life on the farm. Over the course of the year, the students received several pictures and updates on their calf, plus an official adoption certificate. In May, the class visited the farm and their own Blackie, which was a true learning experience that provided a realistic picture of agriculture that is fun and easy.
