- Recognition of county
programs through a Promotion & Education-sponsored award was
established by the NYFB Promotion and Education Committee. The 12th
annual presentation of this award will take place at the 2008 State

Scholarship - High school seniors planning a career in
agriculture are eligible to apply. The

Ag
Literacy Day - To celebrate National Ag Day (April 8, 2008),
volunteers throughout New York visited classrooms to read a book
with an agricultural theme and talk to students about agriculture.
The book is then donated to the school library.
Get your "ag plates" and support Ag in the Classroom.
Milk Vending Machines - Resources available to help guide you
through the process of installing a milk vending machine.
Adopt a Calf Project -
School classes in New York City and the City of Syracuse adopted a
dairy calf and receive regular reports on the calf's progress with
photos.

Little Red Barns containing an ag literacy library
collection are available to purchase for $275, or can be loaned to
your school. Find more information about the barns, or locate the
"barn" nearest you.

Marketbasket Survey

The
State Promotion & Education Committee participates in the AFBF
Marketbasket Survey on a quarterly basis to document the changes in the cost of food from a
countrywide perspective.
New York Harvest for
New York Kids - Aimed at teaching kids about the food they eat.
The State Promotion &
Education Committee is made up of representatives of
each of the 11 Districts plus one at-large member.

Be Aware of Agriculture
- The “Be Aware of New York Agriculture” Contest is a great way to
expose students to agriculture and the food system and to meet the
New York State Learning Standards in your classroom. Students can
learn more about where the food comes from and why it is important
that they understand and appreciate agriculture in New York State.
The contest is divided by grade level categories and statewide
winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 2
honorable mentions) are selected for each grade level.

The Dodge Division 2007 FFA Scholarships for Farm Bureau Families,
which is in its eighth year, recognize FFA members for their supervised
agricultural experience programs (SAEs),
academic achievements and other school and community accomplishments.
