Student Winners Announced in Statewide Be Aware of New York Agriculture Contest
Forty prizewinning paintings, posters, poems, and stories submitted by elementary students across New York in the twelfth annual New York Agriculture in the Classroom “Be Aware of New York Agriculture” contest.  

"Banking on Our Children"
The New York State Consumer Protection Board(CPB) launched a serious of children's videos on February 26, 2009 about the importance of saving for young New Yorkers during there difficult economic times.

Animal Agriculture Education Summit 2009
The event was a summit, hosted by New York Ag in the Classroom to explore the materials available and needed to compile and develop high quality, real-world, factual educational materials focused on animal agriculture.

Verizon Grant Puts CD History of NY Agriculture Lesson Plans on the Web
The New York Farm Bureau Foundation for Agricultural Education is distributing free lesson plans tied to the CD "History of New York Agriculture".

2010 Agricultural Youth Scholarship Information and Application Now Available!
NYFB Agricultural Youth Scholarship information, nomination form and application are now available. Deadline is November 20, 2009 and applicantions will be judged in January 2010.

The Outstanding Project Award (informational pdf)
Recognition of county programs through a Promotion & Education-sponsored award was established by the NYFB Promotion and Education Committee. The 13th annual presentation of this award will take place at the 2009 State Annual Meeting.

Scholarship Finalists and Winners Announced

Ten regional finalists and three state winners for the New York Farm Bureau Agricultural Youth Scholarship have been announced by the Promotion and Education Committee.

Genesee County Farm Bureau Honored For Ag Education Efforts

The 2008 Outstanding Pro-Ed Project Award - Recognition of county programs through a Promotion & Education-sponsored award was established by the NYFB Promotion and Education Committee. Chautauqua and Orleans County Farm Bureaus Recognized for National Ag Education Awards
The Chautauqua and Orleans County Farm Bureaus were both recognized as recipients of the American Farm Bureau Federation’s National Farm-City Award for their efforts in developing programs for agricultural education.

Feed the Hungry Pilot Project Harvests the Crop! October 08
An idea is planted, germinates and the harvest is bountiful! The “Feed the Hungry” Project, piloted by one Schoharie Elementary School third grade class  in 2007 expanded to ALL third grades in the 2008 school year.

New York State Fair Volunteers Help Promote Agriculture
Fairgoers learned about NYFB and our agriculture system. Thanks to generous volunteers at this year's state fair.

Marketbasket Survey NY and National April 1, 2009

Marketbasket 2008 Survey Results (in PDF format)- All are invited to join the State Promotion & Education Committee as they participate in the AFBF Marketbasket Survey on a quarterly basis to document the changes in the cost of food from a countrywide perspective. 2009 dates and forms are listed below.

Ag Literacy Week - To celebrate National Ag Week (March 16 & 20, 2009), volunteers throughout New York visited classrooms to read a book with an agricultural theme and talk to students about agriculture. The book is then donated to the school library.

Be Aware of Agriculture 2009  - The “Be Aware of New York Agriculture” Contest is a great way to expose students to agriculture and the food system and to meet the New York State Learning Standards in your classroom.  Students can learn more about where the food comes from and why it is important that they understand and appreciate agriculture in New York State.  The contest is divided by grade level categories and statewide winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 2 honorable mentions) are selected for each grade level. 2009 Winners

Get your "ag plates" and support Ag in the Classroom.

Adopt a Calf Project - School classes in New York City and the City of Syracuse adopted a dairy calf and receive regular reports on the calf's progress with photos.

Little Red Barns containing an  ag literacy library collection are available to purchase for $275, or can be loaned to your school. Find more information about the barns, or locate the "barn" nearest you.
