“We are proud of our strong agribusiness roots and pleased to have the nation’s oldest Farm Bureau give us the opportunity to serve its proud and vital membership.” said Keith W. Eckel, Nationwide Chairman, farmer, and past president of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
The Nationwide family of companies has a longstanding, solid commitment to agriculture, tracing its agricultural heritage back more than 102 years. In 1909, Iowa elevator and farm leaders needed a way to stop the financial devastation caused by frequent and destructive fires across the country. Together, they created an alternative source of dependable, affordable insurance to protect against these losses.
Founded in Aurelia, Iowa, the Farmers Cooperative Elevator Mutual Insurance Association was the seed that became Farmland Insurance. The company built a solid reputation by focusing on the needs of American agriculture.
In 1982, Farmland Insurance joined the Nationwide family of companies and is now known as Nationwide Agribusiness. They serve farms, ranches, and commercial agricultural operations across the country.
“Nationwide’s rich agricultural heritage makes it the perfect partner for our members,” said Dean Norton, President of New York Farm Bureau. “Our farmers and agricultural business members are critical to the fabric of the State’s overall economy-from the tip of Long Island to the peaks of the Adirondack Mountains to the shore of Lake Erie in Western New York. We look forward to working side by side with the agribusiness professionals from Nationwide to help our members have the tools they need to grow their farms and businesses.”
The new partnership became effective Jan. 1, 2012.
