New York Farm Bureau Statement on USDA's Origin of Livestock Rule

The following may be attributed to NYFB President David Fisher:

“New York Farm Bureau appreciates USDA for finalizing the Origin of Livestock Rule for organic dairy farms. It establishes clear requirements for organic certification practices on dairy farms, including how cows are transitioned into the operation.

According to the USDA Agriculture Census, New York State is home to around 700 organic dairies, and it is imperative that they have the opportunity to fairly compete in the marketplace. New York Farm Bureau has made this a national priority issue for the organization, and we look forward to the implementation of the final rule that will hopefully level the playing field for our New York dairy farmers.”
