NEW YORK FARM BUREAU PRESIDENT’S STATEMENT ON FINAL NYS BUDGET

“The dramatic increase in the minimum wage approved by the legislature today overshadows the positive work for agriculture in the full New York State budget. This includes additional funding that New York Farm Bureau advocated for to strengthen the Environmental Protection Fund, parity in money for improvements to upstate roads and bridges, and a refundable farm workforce tax credit. However, the benefits pale in comparison to the damage that will be done to farming in this state through the massive increase in the minimum wage. Our farmers spoke loudly and often throughout this legislative process, and without them, we believe the budget would have been even worse for agriculture. Moving forward, New York Farm Bureau remains committed to keeping agriculture top of mind in Albany as we work to mitigate the impacts left in the wake of this new budget,” said Dean Norton, New York Farm Bureau President.

New York Farm Bureau is the State’s largest agricultural lobbying/trade organization. Its members and the public know the organization as “The Voice of New York Agriculture.” New York Farm Bureau is dedicated to solving the economic and public policy issues challenging the agricultural community.
